Keeping your motorcycle in good working order is an important component of being a responsible motorcycle owner. Replacing the parts on your motorcycle as they wear down or break is essential to its proper functioning. This guide will help you determine which parts you need to check on.

Tires & Wheels

Your bike’s tires need regular pressure checks with a tire-pressure gauge to make sure that they’re aired up to the proper psi levels, which are typically printed on the sidewall or in your owner’s manual. Good tire pressure helps your bike to have better traction on the road, which is especially important in wet or slippery conditions. Make sure that your wheel spokes get tightened, too, so that the rim doesn’t get bent.

Petcock/Fuel Filter

Either a petcock or a fuel filter will be installed in your motorcycle’s engine, and this needs to be cleaned or replaced on a regular basis to ensure that your motorcycle is always circulating clean gasoline through its engine.

Chains

Your motorcycle’s chains need to be replaced every 15,000 to 25,000 miles. They also need to have their tension adjusted regularly, and you should apply lubricant to them so that they can move smoothly without corrosive build-up.
