If you’ve never driven your motorcycle at night before, you may not be aware of some of the unique challenges and hazards that you could face once the sun goes down. To ensure you’re driving safely after nightfall, we strongly encourage you to read through our article below. In it, you’ll find helpful tips on how to navigate the streets at night, as well as a short list of accessories to help keep you safe while out on the road.

Reflectors and Lights

When driving at night, it’s important to be as visible as possible. The better another driver can see you, the less likely they are to crash into you. While you can invest in some reflective clothing, such as a vest or jacket, reflective tape may be an easier solution. This can be applied anywhere on your vehicle, and can even be placed on your helmet to ensure you’re visible to other motorists. However, while reflectors are extremely helpful in making sure cars behind you or next to you are aware of your presence, the same can’t be said for the vehicles in front. Instead, a set of bright LED bulbs or a handy light flasher may be necessary to alert the drivers ahead.

Ride Cautiously

While increasing your visibility is a great way to ensure other drivers don’t wreck into you, it doesn’t do much for the other hazards that may be present on the road. To ensure the safety of both you and your vehicle, we encourage you to drive very cautiously once night falls. Keep a sharp eye out for obstacles, such as potholes or debris out in the street, and be aware that animals and people alike may act more erratically at night. Be sure to follow the speed limit closely, and double-check intersections before you cross. If you notice a vehicle is moving erratically, you’ll want to get away from them as quickly as possible, as the driver may be inebriated.
